It's good to have a plan, but it's GREAT to have an adventure.

It's important to be alert...to gather wisdom where ever we can find it. There's a great Netflix special available right now: Springsteen on Broadway. Bruce Springsteen talks about his life and intersperses his thoughts with acoustic versions of some of his greatest songs. Here's something he said about youth:

"Maybe there's nothing like that moment in life of being young and leaving someplace, all that youthful freedom. You feel---Finally being untethered from everything you've ever known: the life you've lived, your past, your parents, the world you've gotten used to and that you've loved and hated. Your life laying before you like a blank page. It's the one thing I miss about getting older, I miss the beauty of that blank page. So much life in front of you. Its promises, its possibilities, its mysteries, its adventures. That blank page...just laying there. Daring you to write on it."

When I was young, just entering the world of adults, I thought the most important thing in life was to have a plan. I realize now that a plan wasn't the thing I should have been concentrating on. I see now that my focus should have been on developing the courage to seek new possibilities and adventures.

Scientists believe that the universe is about 13.8 billion years old. Humans have been around maybe 300,000 years. All the things that have occurred in the universe since the beginning of time, all those thousands of years of evolution have led up to this brief time of our existence. Some people believe in heaven and hell. Some people believe we'll all be born again into another life. But these are beliefs, opinions really. There is a possibility that the lives we live is all there is. If that's the case, imagine the wrongness of dwelling on negatives like anger or hatred or pettiness. If that's the case, imagine the silliness of being caught up in trivialities.

If I had one bit of advice I could give to young people just starting out, it would be: shun the mundane, seek out adventure, write something amazing on your blank page.
